I'm really glad

I was just looking at the journals of a few of the boys from the Gateway crowd. Jeez! I am so glad not to be an angsty teenage boy anymore. I mean I've looked back at my old (paper) journals on occasion so I know I was never quite so angsty or quite so stupid as the guys I was just looking at, but still, blech, ick, groan... I was having a conversation the other day with someone about the mandatory military service that happens in most European countries. It's really not such a bad idea at all. Eighteen year-old boys, as a general rule, really should have a stint in the army just to force them out of their solipsism and to get their shit together before they are inflicted on the rest of the world.
