Aw, I kinda like the art in this one! It took literally over a decade for me to get to the point where looking at my own drawings didn't make me want to gag, so it's super wild to see these older comics and think "actually my art had some good points back then too." I used to tell people "if you don't like the comic's art, give it a couple weeks and it'll look different." That isn't really the case anymore- my style has solidified pretty well the last several years. There are still changes, but they're more subtle most of the time and I suspect 90% of my readers don't even notice them. Every now and then I still get a wild hair and go "agh I hate how I draw my comic!!!" and change things up, and while it usually doesn't produce permanent, radical change, it often forces me to learn how to do something different, or better than I used to. I'll never be a Great Artist but I at least enjoy drawing now, and as long as it's fun and conveying the actions I'm trying to convey, that's really all I could ask for.

It's hard to believe the first Cubetown visit was like 800 friggin' comics ago, holy crap. Time does weird things when you draw a comic every day for 20-odd years. As I recall, at this point I was still trying to figure out if QC would switch solely to focus on Marten and Claire's Cubetown adventures, or if I'd split the focus between Cubetown and Northampton. I ended up doing the latter, which I think was the right choice. Too many fun characters to just leave behind like that! And of course then I immediately added like four new ones, and then Anh basically took over the comic for a year. Is Sam still going through her goth phase? IS it just a phase? ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT (I will do whatever seems funniest at the time)

A Bembo comic! Man I love these. IIRC, the whole idea for Bembo started off on twitter when I went on a bit of a "dumb barbarian but not in the way you'd expect" style of shitposting spree. Then later that year I needed some filler comics for the week between xmas and new year's so I decided to turn some of those posts into actual comics. And then it became a semi-regular thing! They're very fun and I hope to do more in the future. Bembo is obviously heavily indebted to Oglaf, a comic I adore. Go read Oglaf, unless you don't like cartoons with tits and wieners in them I guess.
Every time I see one of these old comics I think "man, remember when QC was about indie rock lol." Also remember when I used to make jokes about the size of Faye's ass but didn't really know how to draw thicker ladies yet so she pretty much looked like every other character, lol.

Looking back at this year, I feel like Anh basically took over the comic? It's wild how it's always the unexpected ones who have the most juice. No offense to Ayo, who is also plenty juicy and I also love writing. But Anh's a couple orders of magnitude more of a mess. But THIS comic is about AYO! Who is a delightful little idiot and I can't wait to do more with. OKAY THANKS I LOVE YOU ALL BYE

cupcake_gothWHERE THE HELL IS MY ROLL OF 3” WIDE BLACK ELASTIC?!?!! I’ve searched all the usual places, but no luck. The next time I go upstairs I will ask Clovis Devilbunny for help finding it, which means I’ll find it, but it’ll be someplace weird.

I’ve been looking for a full-skirted black wool coat, because mine is about 5” too small. The coats I’ve found are either not in my size, not the style I want, or synthetic wool. I’m boggled that I can’t find what I want, because they were plentiful in thrift stores just a few years ago. And I’m not even looking for one with a fur collar, because I have multiple vintage real fur collars that I can wear with a coat.
So that was terrible

In shallow capitalist consumption news, we actually went to a mall on Saturday. We didn't want to, but the Stroppy One needed new shoes, so he needed to go to the Dr. Martens store and try things on. While he was doing that, I scooted over to the MAC store and bought the last tube of "Cyber" lipstick that they had. I was waited on by an ADORABLE goth girl, who was all aflutter about my entire look. At one point she made a little bowing action and declared me her queen. That was nice.
After I bought lipstick, I joined the Stroppy One at the Dr. Martens store aaannnnnnnd ended up adding some things to the purchase: the Dr. Martens Elphie II Wednesday shoes and a version of this purse that has a black ruffle around the edge on the front. While I'm trying to use smaller purses because less size = less weight = my shoulders don't get as cranky, I have the pink one of this, and I've learned not to overpack it. Also, it will be super useful for the big company kick-off week-long meeting in January, because I've learned I need to have a decently sized notebook with me at all times.

Wait, no -- well, yes, but also -- okay, look, let me back up and start again: it's almost December, and that means it's time for our annual December holiday points bonus.The standard explanation: For the entire month of December, all orders made in the Shop of points and paid time, either for you or as a gift for a friend, will have 10% of your completed cart total sent to you in points when you finish the transaction. For instance, if you buy an order of 12 months of paid time for $35 (350 points), you'll get 35 points when the order is complete, to use on a future purchase.
