German attempts to advance along the coast of Belgium toward the English Channel continue to not go well. Serbians have taken forts in Sarajevo (and even though that's were the war started, it does seem like a side-show now.)

• An estimated two million Belgians are refugees outside Belgium from a total population of seven million. Some returning to Antwerp from Holland.
• Body washed ashore near Carmanah having been in the water a week to ten days. Only shoes, socks, and sock-garters remained on the body.\240
• Bomb explodes in Montréal. Two "foreign looking men" seen carrying bomb into building in area "occupied largely by Germans, Austrians, Poles and Russians."
• Proposal to build "airships of all types" (including hydrofoils) in Victoria.
• Miss Frankie Seigel, "first-rate blackface\240comedian of the Bert Williams type" to perform at Pantages\240Theatre. "She sings a song, does a Coon dance and springs a gag with all the droll skill of the best end men in the business." [the article has a picture that has to be seen to be believed. The everyday racism of 100 years ago is pretty stunning.]
• "More Reports of Atrocities" by Germans at length and in gruesome detail.\240
