Your May Day post with socialist cats sharing food even though they have separate bowls. These two eat like Cornish miners pooling wages. In the very early days of the labour movement before unions and fair wages when people were not paid the same–at all–and could be shorted on the whim of a foreman or bad luck of being assigned the a less productive area of the mine or any of a myriad of other things, miners would get together to pool their wages and redistribute them more fairly, including to coworkers that may have been unable to work due to illness or injury. The process was called "reckoning". It was the precursor to unions, fair wages, fair labour practices, sick leave, health plans and so much so many take so much for granted. via Instagram
