Dec. 3rd, 2003

I have my annual performance review for work this afternoon. That means this morning I am staring at me self-assesment form and wondering how to fill in the blanks. This is second only in odiousness to filling out the semi-annual financial statement for my damn student loan. This is made more odious this year by the fact I had one project drag out only to die an pathetic and pointless death and another project drag out absurdly long because of user resistance.

While I normally quite like my job, today is one of those rare days where the thought of faking an illness crossed my mind so I could postpone this for a day. This is a day where I have to "asses my action items and mutual commitments", "quantitatively evaluate my measurable activities and qualitatively evaluate my less measureable activities", "develop and prioritize my 2004 objectives and action plan" and generally wallow in the sort of stuff than makes me want to watch a "Fight Club"/"Office Space" double feature.

Phew!

And the performance review is over. As with last year I was harder on myself than my boss was. This means I can pretty much count on getting at least the same sized Chrismas bonus as last year, if not a bigger one since the company is doing better this year compared to last.

My back is very sore tonight

These are the last three pictures from our trip to New York last June.

The deck at Herb and Brian's house in Sag Harbor.

The stairs to the deck. I liked the angles.

The reason the deck is grey. This rain hit just as we got back to the house from a sight-seeing drive to East Hampton, to Sag Harbor and then back to the house. On the way to East Hampton we passed a couple with a kid riding bikes toward Sag Harbor. On the way back to the house from Sag Harbor we passed the same family on just outside the town centre on their way back to East Hampton. They would have been caught in this rain with at least half an hour left to their ride. The rain went on like this for over an hour.
