I'm just bagged. I went to bed quite tired last night from walking around in the snow for half the day but didn't get anywhere near as much sleep as I'd have liked. Sometime around 4 a.m. there were a couple of *thud* noises below the bedroom window that half woke me up but didn't think much of them. It's not unusual for someone to be slamming a car door as they psychotically make their way to the 24-hour gym across the street. Not much later, maybe 4:30, there were voices below the window. I can sleep through frieght trains humping 5 metres away (seriously, I lived in Gastown next to the railyard for two years) but voices and thumpy music are guaranteed to keep me awake.

At least three people were making a statment to a cop about the *thud* - apparently someone breaking a car window. I presume the people were from the gym since the treadmills face the window and there are always people running in there, even at 4 a.m. Sometime a little after 5 a.m. the guy who broke the window must have walked by again and was nabbed. The people who had been talking to the police started yelling at the guy, "You f**k! Serves you right!" blah, blah, blah...

Thinking about it now I suspect the vandal was not the total idiot he would appear to be at first blush. I'll bet he intentionally smashed the window in plain view of the people in the gym and returned while the police were there with specific eye to getting arrested. It was cold and wet last night. It had been so cold earlier in the day that the snow had blown into what would ordinarily be dry, covered areas and by 4 a.m. that would have been melting into the slush that is everywhere today. The cop sounded altogether unsurprised when he said, "Returning to the scene of the crime, eh?" Holding cells are warm and dry.

All that being what it may be, the effect on my life is that I'm still stupid-tired which makes work difficult.
