BCAA winching my car out of the underground parking at home.

After much debugging and barking up a small copse of erroneous electronic trees I figured out that it had to be a plain-old bad starter motor. Not something I'm equipped to fix myself. The BCAA guy and I pointed Alice (Cooper) down the hill for a push-start and I drove her to the garage on the next block.

I really should have started with the basics, but I've never owned a car with a computer in it before and the automotive equivalent of Dr. Google led me astray. However, I learned a great deal and now know with certainty that the electronics are fine.
