Past the awkward blank stage. Danish actress Gwili Andre, b. 1907. I was going to go back to old grocery bags, but decided to go with some old 13"×19" glossy inkjet photo paper left over from my large format printer that died a few years ago. I'm not sure what this is going to be like to paint on. It already forced me to do something differently. Normally I draw things in with an ordinary graphite pencil, but the paper is too smooth so even a soft 6B pencil would leave a mark. I had to draw this with charcoal. I think there is some subconscious effort at work to get me to use old supplies I've been dragging around since I got my visual arts B.A. in 1994.
