This has come up at work where we are currently displaying a scent-based work with scented canvases. Turns out I am the only one that has heard the term "canvas sniffer" to refer to an art gallery patron that gets in close to artwork to look at fine details (usually an artist that wants to look at how things are done.) Is it not common with gallery staff or just archaic?
