I've always been a bit concerned that this situation would get dangerous at some point. Yes, he's a looney. And yes, it is funny sometimes. But I'd would've just leave him alone and let him wallow in his own lunacy. There's really no need to fuel it or involve yourself in his affairs or anything. Anyways, I'm glad to see that you're dropping this whole situation here. Lets just ignore him and hope we never, ever see him again.
