That's the neat thing about this. The 1970 was the tail end of Modernism and devotion to the concept of "form follows function", uniform design, and a desire to do something genuinely new. Anything built later starts bearing the decadent stamp of "post-modernism" where design elements would be overtly borrowed (or "appropriated" in art-speak) from the past in a way that makes no attempt to (re)present what's been taken as something new. So now you get buildings that are awkward mish-mashes of "quotes" from other design aesthetics rather than anything consitent.

Nice... I thought about shooting a cyberpunkish type of short here. But to truly get that delapodated look I thought I would have to shoot in Chinatown / east hastings. And I REALLY don't want to be walking around in the rain with a $500 camera in the dark in THAT neibourhood.
Althought I think what is really funny is how fake the buildings look .. they ACTUALLY look like cardboard props in that photo.
I applied the "smart blur" filter to the photo primarily to remove grain and compensate for JPEG compression artifacts in the red glow. I chose that filter over "despeckle" because it has a somewhat painterly effect, in this case resulting in a glass-matte sort of feel.
great shot...and it will always be eaton's in our hearts...i remember going down there with my nana, when i was but a wee lad, and eating in the cafeteria on the fourth floor...i thought it was so cool going out on the balcony...
the circular building loox like its from 'the black hole' (http://www.toyarchive.com/Blackhole.html)... that movie was amazing from what i remember of it...
Yes, nice photo, indeed. Youre in good company, finding 1970s architecture futuristic: when science fiction movies are filmed here, 1970s university buildings are used for locations. I miss minimalism, too.
Paul went to see Blade Runner in theatres once, and when he walked out of the theatre, it was raining, and he said our city looked very Blade Runnerish in the rain at night.

I guess this means that Scotiabank will be filing for bankruptcy soon...
