I made it through the fire without a drop of water damage. Now, thanks to the inconsiderate people upstairs I had water dripping into my bathroom when I got home today. Seems the girls upstairs have some new boyfriends that aren't too clear on the concept of shower curtains. They've been getting increacingly noisy as well, usually picking up steam right about when I go to bed. *sigh* I wish I could afford a penthouse. That would be ideal. The
only apartment on top of an otherwise commercial building where everyone goes home at 5pm and no one ever plays loud music or shouts "yahoo!" (don't people who shout "yahoo" realise they are the very reason for the term yahoo?) out the window.
But, all things in, this is much, much better than the studios I lived in. At least here the noise is inconsequential enough that earplugs effectively eliminate it as opposed to a "doof-doof-doof" one could feel or having an upstairs neighbour that played music so loud it actually drowned out my own stereo. Relatively speaking I really like it here, but I guess nothing is perfect. At least within my budget.
And, horray! I am now on vacation. I don't go back to work until January 2
nd. I can finish sorting out the rest of the apartment and finally really get settled in.

Date: 2002-12-19 12:55 pm (UTC)I don't think I would mind them playing loud
music if they played GOOD music. Or at least
kept their speakers 1" away from the wall
instead of right up against it. It would always
send vibrations throught the walls that would
knock pictures off the wall, case books to fall
off my book shelf.
I don't want them to turn their music down as
much as I wanted them to sound proof their room
I love how retail stores sell speakers that could
shatter windows 4 blocks away to people who will
never turn them up to over 1/2 way.

Date: 2002-12-19 02:08 pm (UTC)Almost exactly 11 years ago (New Year's Day 1992), when I lived in a basement suite in Kits one of the pipes in the house broke (it was a particularly cold day) and it was litterally raining in my apartment. That was pretty ugly. And kind of funny. I was out when it happened and it had been going on for some time. My roommie and the people that lived upstairs were freaking out and bailing the water and the like. No one thought to turn the main off.
Funny thing about that one, is even with all the water that poured in the only thing that was really damaged was the couch. It wasn't irrepairable, though. I still have that couch.
