Jazz and Tharsis get to have an adventure day today. The restoration people are doing a smoke abatement treatment (basically flooding the apartment with ozone [03] for four hours) to ensure the smoke smell from the fire doesn't return when the weather warms up. Naturally the cats can't be in the apartment while this is going on so today they are investigating one of the vacant suites in the building, the south west corner apartment on the third floor.

In other news: I brought Elaine's new painting to work today and presented it to my co-worker. She was thrilled! She sits across from me and she wasn't at her desk when I got in. I left the canvas leaning against her desk so she would see it when she rounded the corner. Much oo-ing and aah-ing ensued when she saw it.

The weekend was nice, if a little less productive than I would have liked. I slept in far too long Saturday morning since I still had some catch-up to do from my insomnia earlier in the week, which, thankfully, seems to have passed. Now that I have all my tax forms it's time to start into the annual odious task of catching up on my accounting and preparing my return. My accounting fell by the wayside sometime in March of last year, when things started to get really bad in my relationship at the time. That means I have now a year's worth of transactions get caught up on, and that is a bit daunting. Saturday afternoon I got invoices out for a couple of clients that have now gone over 60 days and are seriously pushing my patience. The only thing working in their favour right now is that small claims court is a pain in the arse.

Saturday evening Nick and Sandi coerced Elaine and I into coming over for dinner and a game of "Goth Trivia" (which Elaine won, further ensconcing her title of "Queen"). It was definitely surreal sitting down for dinner at the old goth-box table from Luvafair, in my old apartment... All sorts of little overlapping eddies in time.

Sunday was not good. I had a perfectly horrible sinus headache. I slept in and then spent a great deal of time in a hot shower (which morphed in to a hot bath) in an effort to steam it away. It was nearly 3:00 p.m. before I was "up" for the day. All I managed to do was separate out what papers I need to get through my accounting for the year. It's all in a frighteningly large stack. I'm hoping to get through a month a night this week, two on the weekend, which should have me ready to file my return by the end of Sunday.

Not willing to dive right into it after all the time it took just to sort out the 2002 papers I proceeded to upgrade the webserver/database-engine software on my server. I still can't afford the hardware upgrade that are needed, but the new software has a smaller footprint and better performance than the older version. It's made a noticable improvement, particularly with the increacingly massive Gothic BC photogallery. It's enough of a boost to hold me over until I'll be able to afford the upgrades, which should be about October or November. The performance on the comments feature is pretty acceptble now, good enough that I think I'll move ahead with some of the other improvements and new features that I have in mind.
