I remember a couple years ago I had to help a 17 year old girl stay awake waiting for police and ambulence to show because she was ODing on heroin... She had been clean for like 2 years she said...
Well.. since it is a strecher and not a body bag.. could've been worse.
I once called an Ambulance because I saw a guy OD in tjhe street. A FIRETRUCK showed up... a fricken firetruck. The people in 911 should get their heads strait. I asked why a firetruck showed up and they told me about a peice of emergency equipment on a firetruck that paramedics use.... My only question would be
Why don't they mount that peice of equipment on Ambulances instead?
I understand that society has to pay for emergency services - and that is the LAST thing that should have budget cutbacks.. but it sickens me that these type of 'essential' services can get away with such inefficiency- yet wine when their buget is cut.
I couldn't see exactly what happened, but my impression was it was an injury, not an overdose. There was some discussion just out of view (2nd and 3rd pictures) and one of the medics went back to the ambulance for a back-board before the guy was brought out on the gurney.
I really like the first photo, great sense of anonymity, loneliness and the lighting is fantastic, this is why movie crews spray the roads with water...It would be a perfect submission for the Westender, weekly photo thing...ever think of sending one in? The details are in every copy of the Westender...I think the Straight may take the same kind of Photo submissions...or maybe its Extra West...
