As a tertiary result of the fire our "free" (included with the rent) cable is soon to be history. All the old cable is being replaced and "upgraded" this week. The theoretical plus side of this is now people in the building can get pay-per-view, cable modems or digital service. The reality, from my perspective, is having to pay for crap television, which I refuse to do. When I was in my old studio where Nick and Sandi are now I could pull three channels out of the air and it was good enough. Who needs 257 channels of crap?

the Cable Dilema

I have cable , I got it with my Internet package. If I didn't have it they would have raised the internet cost to only a few dollars less than what I pay for both.

Now I don't mind TV as long as its good TV - Simpsons, Lexx, Futuramma , Dexters Lab .. but basic cable is 90% shit. So do I

a: upgrade the Cable to get the type of shows I want to see
(cartoons, films, docs, sci-fi , music shows)

b: cancell it all together but end up paying almost the same price

Given the horror stories I hear from you and Kim .. I don't really want to switch to telus for high speed internet
and I can't go back to dialup.

Having had the same issues with Telus (they couldn't even set me up properly, dammit - and simply the most pathetic tech "support" on earth), I would recommend cable. If you don't need the other Telus services, and you're just using the net for surfing, cable is great. Everything loads quickly and easily, end of story. But from what I hear, if you need more juice for your server ( or etc.) Telus would be the way to go. Go ahead and shoot me, but 3 seriously geeky (and reliable) people have told me this now...

Oh hey - are you renting your cable modem? If you buy one your internet bill goes waaaay down - and I still have my old modem from when I lived in Marpole. I'll make you a great deal if ya want it!

I just realized that without cable I won't be able to get NPR anymore. No more "Cah tock" (Car Talk) on Sunday :-(
