This morning I woke up to the kind of distressed meow that only a Siamese could make. It was a horrible, mournful noise. I rushed out of bed and found Jazz and Tharsis on opposite sides of the cat door. They had obviously been playing "I'm going to bat the door when you try to walk through it" game. Only this time Tharsis got his paw stuck in the door and was, in his mind, stuck (of course if he just went *through* the door instead of trying to pull back he'd have been fine, but hey, he's a cat and therefore has a brain the size of a walnut). Poor little guy didn't know what to do except call for help.

He's fine. He purred like an Evinrude once I rescued him from the "leg hold trap" and gave him wuzzles. Fuzzy little dufus...

You know .. just when you think (and brag) about how intelligent your cats are .. they do something like this.
(although - I might add - it did make you get out of bed and give him attention- so you are pretty well trained too)

Of course this comming from me .. mr "crash yer bike looking at a pretty girl"

Mine has a different answer to that problem.

Horus managed to do almost exatly the same thing with a cupboard door. His solution to the problem involved throwing his whole body off the door again and again until it let him go. Damn near took the door off. Funny as hell to watch though. Just about beat himself unconscious.

tharsis and zack have a bit too much in common- maybe it's the siamese/himalayan background? zack managed to get himself shut in the closet a while back. this happens fairly frequently since the hall closet is the *only* room in the apartment the cats are not allowed in, so they're both desperately curious about it. on top of that, the closet isn't lighted, so if there *is* a black cat hiding in there i'm unlikely to see him. well, zack got shut in, but silly fuzzy knew he wasn't supposed to be in there, so he didn't ask to be let out. i finally missed him and found lucas staring intently at the closet door. sure enough, there was zack! thinking back to when i had last had the door open, he must have been shut in there for three hours or so and never made a mew...

Yup. Tharsis has pulled that one, too. If the linen closet is open he'll practically make a b-line for the towels for a nap. We failed to notice him one time and it was some six or seven hours before he "asked" to be let out.

my cat knows how to open all doors and close them again too, she instead has decided it is more fun walking the outside ledge (13 floors up) to the neighbors dining room window and sleep in their apartment while their gone and then come back around dinner time...
