OK, I did it. I just bought the long-anticipated new server. Fully three years after I originally planned to, this is the first "major" purchase of a tangible object (i.e.: not including travel) in three years. Honestly it's not a huge amount of money, but it's more than I've let myself spend on any one thing in a long time, so I got that moment of nausea that comes with spending an amount in excess of a month's rent. I plan to pick it up Saturday and start work on migrating over to it on the weekend. The old P-133 back-up server will fall off the bottom end of things and I'll be consolidating bits from the current server and my workstation into a single box that will be my "new" workstation, so where I now have three boxes, I'll have two.

Being the marketing guru smartass that I am, I would like to be the first to inform you that this feeling is called "cognitive dissonance" :P

You're one of those people who aren't used to buying anything really nice for yourself. So yeah, it feels weird. And maybe it's more money than say, a pair of pointy boots (your last major personal indulgence, I think), so sure it's going to feel weird - you're used to either not having any cash at all, or having to spend it on someone else entirely. Well you know what? You aren't starving anymore. You aren't scraping anymore. Things are good. So dammit, be good to yourself and treat yourself, that's what I say!

And, heh, as a result I'll get a new(er) hard drive outta the deal. Muahahahahaaa!
