I got an e-mail from a corporate recruiter (located in this building no less) asking if I was interested in a job managing a Lotus Notes development department of four people. I asked for more details since I had a hunch about who the position was with based on the description. Sure enough "The position is in downtown Vancouver for a global company that is in the financial services industry. The lotus part is for Canada-wide only (not global)." I wrote back and said, "Sounds like the HSBC data centre at 1050 W. Pender. If that's the case, thanks, but no thanks." To which I was answered, "thanks for your response. Best of luck with your career."

ROFL! However briefly, I was just considered for the position above what I was doing for HSBC three years ago, before they walked me out the door as a "security risk" on September 12, 2001. That is amusing enough. What's even more amusing is they were offering a salary range that at the low end was exactly what I was making there three years ago in a lesser position, and at the high end would amount to about a $200 to $300 difference in my monthly take home. Yeah. Fat chance. Like I am about to give up a great job and an office in an industry I actually give a shit about to have the soul sucked out of me in some evil corporation's cubicle farm for the sake $60-odd dollars a week! Not that I would make it past the first interview, what with my terrorist leak of their top-secret fire-exit procedures.

As it was in 2001 it is now, HSBC can bite me.
