When you were young...

...did you want to be a veterinarian?

Live the dream.

Alright ....

you think THAT'S gross?... oh dear dear dear no no no....

I grew up in 'toon town (Saskatoon) and the University of Saskatechewan ALWAYS had open house field trips of all the elementry school classes (part of the horror that is growing up on the prairies) I guess the education system was trying to convince the kids at the early age to get interested in Farming and Agriculture instead of Real careers.

anyway ..back to the topic....

Besides the Horse-corpse book (a la "The Cell") they also had live cows... with Holes cut into them that you could reach in and feel the guts
...WHILE THE COW WAS moving and breathing and digesting. A gaping hole in its side ... not a slit ... I am talking about a good 10" round hole.

Now I know that cow innards are green and mossy...and I could have lived my whole life without knowing that.

It was a cross between and educational exhibit and a traveling freakshow - strangely appropriate for toon town.

I've heard of that but you are the first person I know that has actually seen one.

some things you just can't unsee.

[identity profile] bitogoth.livejournal.com 2004-05-21 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
there's one at the agricultural research centre my mum used to be associated with, except this cow had a plexiglass window in her side so you could see the food digesting in the stomach. i don't know what was stranger- the window or the fact that someone thought it would be a good idea. o.O

[identity profile] mediavictim.livejournal.com 2004-05-21 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
What about NO window ...but a Gaping hole so you could enjoy the SMELL and FEEL of the cow digesting food.

One is an exibit .. the other is an interactive experience....

The scary thing is that these were made for a reasn .. there is someone out there that WANTED this.

nope

I wanted to be a tattoist, an archeologist, a wildlife photographer for National Geographic...Veterinarian was on the list, but it was last choice.

Personally I wanted to be a different Edgar Rice Burroughs character - John Carter of Mars.
