OK, I finally got one of the batteries charged and took my first few pictures with the new camera. Behold the art that
is the first picture with the new camera:

Yes, I accidentally hit the shutter button and took a picture of the floor. It was an auspicious moment.
But it is a really high resolution picture of the floor. This is a crop from the unresized version of the photo above. Eight megapixels of carpet and cat-hair! |

In keeping with photographic tradition I naturally took about sixty pictures of the cat. Seriously. Sixty. One of the things I was playing with was the burst mode. I bought fast memory and can get somewhat over 3 frames a second at full resolution - which is about ten times faster than my old camera. No more cursing missed shots at fashion shows. I've included this one to show something else that I am drooling over: depth of field. Note how Tharsis' face is in focus but the papers he is sitting on are not. Achieving this is no longer something that requires effort. |

This rather blurry mess hearkens back to one of the first photos I posted when I got my old camera, which was a 4 second exposure. I was excited because the old camera could do up to a 16 second exposure. Above is as 30 second exposure (hand-held, though a closed window - so it is utter crap) and the new camera has a bulb mode, i.e. no limit. I could shoot star tracks if I wanted to. |

And, getting the hang of it now, this is an indication of what I can do in the dark with this camera. |
