I started this painting September 27, 2001. It got put aside when went to Toronto and New York the following October. I picked it up once during the Babylonian captivity, I've done a number of paintings since moving here but never made any headway with this one. Well, finally, 3½ years later, I have finished the water and sky. The trees themselves will only take moments to fill in and I will probably finish this tomorrow. An exercise in perseverance is what this one turned into.

And in other project news: this chair was abandoned in the basement. It was obvious why, too. One of the back legs was snapped off, the back was snapped in the middle and loose from the seat. For most people this would be definite dumpster material. I, however, grew up in an upholstery shop so it is a fun challenge. The back is already fixed and reattached solidly to the seat. You can see the c-clamps on the back leg under where the fabric is lifted away. Obviously the cats already love the chair. They've been taking turns sleeping on it. In not too long this chair will be as good as new. New a chair like this ain't cheap.

I do believe that if we go with the store idea, one of the "products" will be restored furniture. How many times now have I said that I should have apprenticed with my dad when I had the chance? I really like doing this stuff.
