I think it is about time to split my fine art and photography off my personal site and have a dedicated portfolio site. I've currently got http://www.mbarrick.com as my résumé site for my programming and http://www.mbarrick.net set up as my catch-all personal site with http://atratus.araneum.ca redirecting to MBarrick.net. I'm thinking that I'll redesign MBarrick.com and MBarrick.net along the lines of this experiment - very clean an minimal but still "showing off" in a technical way. The experiment page is actually all text and totally dynamic. The design adapts itself to the size of the window and the whole thing is light-weight and degrades gracefully for WAP access. It's just an experiment, so there is nothing in the scripting to deal with older and marginal browsers yet, but it does work in MSIE 5+, Netscape 7+, Firefox 0.9+ and any WAP or text-only browser which covers about 98% of what's out there with no degredation of the design. Those other 2% can still see and read, it's just not as pretty for them. I'll use http://atratus.araneum.ca for the purely personal stuff like this blog, trip photos, and that sort of thing.

Last month I redesigned my website look and feel with a minimal look and feel.

Although I am re-considering making a separate website for my personal stuff (adventure photos, trips, personal projects) as opposed to my
professional services (video production , media transfer and Disk manufacturing)

Yes. I wasn't thinking about that consciously, but thinking about it now your redesign is probably what put the bug in my ear. Now it's laid eggs and is consuming my brain...

Khaaaaaaaaan!!!!!!

I always wanted a big flashy website but I could never nail down a design motif (and stick with it without changing my mind 1000 times) - and everything fancy I tried never worked out

I started to notice (from my work experience ) that the fancy websites with the flashy interfaces and the Gimicy names rarely updated (since the person put so much work into the initial design) and generally were for companies that went bankrupt within 6 months - whereas simple websites that were easier to update with more grounded names (usually based on a business owners name) lasted a lot longer and were (as a business) taken more seriously.

Atomic Alien , Rocketship Video produtions, Chainsaw music ... these type of places would disolve in a month - whereas Bowes Production , Lorne Lapham Rentals, Edward Lee Video - they would stick around for a while (and in some cases grow)

I guess that is why I registered my name as a domain. It makes me look like I might be around for a while - It ties myself in with my business
and the simple(er) design is for clearer communication , easy navigation - and generally a cleaner look

Now lets go get the Genesis device
