Why is there a man with a megaphone on the street outside my window?

Because he is directing a commercial.

Naturally there is lighting set up.

Not that this is annoying at all as it shines into the apartment...

The commercial itself looks funny though:

Note that all the "runners" have cigarettes. This must be some kind of anti-smoking ad. All I can think of is our "goths on wheels" bicycle rides / rollerblades around the park where half of us are smoking while exercising... or my mother who was an olympic-level swimmer who started smoking when she was 10 (she'll be 75 this year). Me? I'll be going out to the club tonight for a few too many drinks and smokes...

And this is why being an extra is so much *fun*...

First they get doused with water to look like they've been sweating. See, I wasn't lying about the wet t-shirts ;-)

Look how much fun the dark-haired girl seems to be having.

Remember that it is just barely spring here. Right now it is all of 11 °C outside and will go down to about 5 °C over the next couple hours.  Note the same girl curled up into a little frozen ball.

They've been at this for a couple hours now, mostly running back and forth with the crowd in the bleachers cheering each time (and that isn't annoying either). The filming notice said they'd be here until midnight tonight and back again tomorrow from 4 p.m. until midnight.

I used to thrive doing extra work but I will have to say that the commercial I did for Coors (naughty lulu and I were just talking about this actually) was horrid. 16-17 hour day and I’m usually ok with long ass days but it’s all about the treatment of the extras that make it or break it and this one sucked! We were huddled up in a friggin cafeteria on a mountain in north van with hardly any heat while we waited for the fog to lift. On top of that our catering consisted of bagged lunches and doughnuts! That was the last commercial work I will ever do. Movie sets have a better budget ;-)

In the last picture you can see what passed for the craft table next to the bleachers: a large thermos of presumably coffee and a plate of vegetables with dip.

Any time, not that the time has changed and there is enough evening light. I for one need to get out and get some lung power back so I can soak up the nicotine more effectively.

Actually - forgot to tell you that the seawall is closed for repair until the 15th (translation - probably be the 30th before they open it again)
Found out during my last cyling that they closed off the wall under Lions Gate to Siwash Rock
