...When we make 14 bored posts from the airport.

I've got an hour to kill before boarding. The odd time I had to go to Williams Lake for the old company it was just show up at the terminal and get on the copmany jet and go. None of this hurry up and wait crap.

I don't mind this when the destination is somewhere interesting, like New York, Toronto, Chicago, etc. - but the whole "check in one hour before boarding" thing and wasting no less than two hours of my life for the sake of a five-hour meeting in a windowless room in Vernon simply sucks ass.

I'm such a zombie this morning I forgot to take off my Blackberry before going through the metal detector. Better here than the Kelowna airport, though. Kelowna being the financial and communications hub that it is, the security is tighter than any major airport I've ever been to. Perhaps they don't realise that the reason that the Japanese internment camps were put in the interior during WWII is because there is nothing of any importance in the area? More likely they don't have anything more interesting to do in their lives than make people take off their shoes.

Today's big meeting is to define the requirements for the new corporate intranet. With two months left in my retention term the worst possible outcome of this meeting would be a job offer to program and maintain the new intranet.

Getting such a job offer would screw me out of my severence package and force me to stay with this crap company for several more months. The conditions of my term state that if I'm offered alternate employment within the company I'm no longer entitled to the severance, even if I turn down the offer. If the offer is significantly different than the job I was hired for (for example, requiring me to work out of Vernon rather than Vancouver) I could bring on a constructive dismissal suit and maybe still have some money left after the lawyers get theirs.

So... if they offer you a new job, even though they have already terminated you, they can get out of giving you your severance package? (Does that mean your "good behaviour" bonus is scrapped, too?)

Why does that seem so screwed up to me?

i've found that every small airport has way more uptight security than vancouver...it's because they have nothing else to do...i was thinking the same thing about kelowna airport when i was there recently...

Because it is

What about this place hasn't been fucked up. I would still be entitled to the "good behavior" bonus, but a job offer = not canned ergo no severance. It's the way these guys do business. Last year one of their mills burned down in a forest fire. They waffled for months before telling everyone that had worked there that they were permanently out of work.
