A Deciding Factor

Remember Friday before last when, because they were going to set me up with a VOIP phone to work from home, I was briefly thinking maybe continuing on with Tolko as a contractor maybe wouldn't be so bad? I neglected to mention that I asked about the status of the phone yesterday because it seemed strange that it was taking so long. Turns out the phone is ready to go, but they won't send it to me because, basically it is now stuck in the bureaucracy. Somebody piped up with the question "how come he gets a phone when none of the other contractors have one?" -- maybe because I am the only one that knows 1.) it is possible, and 2.) there are about 40 surplus phones because they are shutting down the Vancouver office? It was the last straw.

ah large businesses...they really are morons when it comes down to it...the only thing slower and larger is the government...and there change takes an epoch at the least...

It's really a sad commentary on Tolko that I am looking forward to significantly less B.S. in taking a civic government job.

One thing that is fun about it already is I'm already "out" as a goth because of how I came into this via Elaine's opening at the PoMo gallery. I actually presented Gothic BC as an example of my work. For once I have a job where I have been hired *because* I am a creative oddball and I don't have to pussy-foot around it.

Actually -working for a smaller business is worse when you work for a control freak of a boss. No decisions can be made unless he has a say and he never has time to do anything since he is already doing everything.
I went from retail (large corporation - nothing could get done - all decisions based out east) to a small coproration (the three owners were all severe control freaks who didn't want me to do my job) to a small family owned company with a single owner who had an iron grip on all aspects of the business.


This is why there is a brand new business licence hanging on my wall.

well there are stagnant small businesses as well...that's bound to happen...and the progressive ones usually end up being bought out by the larger ones which destroy all of their unique characteristics in the interest of consistency...that's because most businesses are too cheap and lazy to innovate these days...

Bearing in mind that the reason for my working is to buttress the revenue from the fledgeling businesses Elaine and I own. We decided on a no-debt aproach and this is the vehicle for that.
