I just got a call from a recruiter who thought that "Vancouver, BC CA" on my résumé meant I was looking for work in Vancouver, Baja California, or California. She seemed genuinely stunned that I didn't want to even consider living in Los Angeles. Me living in L.A. is about as likely as a bonspiel on the Los Angeles River.

Oh gawd. Well, I guess it's time to literally spell things out for people. Although maybe not... if they don't know you're from Canada they may not "write you off" as a candidate right away. Heh.

But you know, when I first started using a .ca domain, a lot of people thought it meant I was based in California. So yeah.

:P

I got a second call from another recruiter about an hour later. This one was in Minnisota, so also a "no, thanks" - but how odd: two out-of-the blue calls in one day.

first, i think it's actually 'minnesota'.

second, americans are generally dumb and egotistical. and californians are mostly the worst. (really, thay are)

Oops. You're right. It is Minnesota.

As far as Californians go... I used to be married to one. Short of some deal like "If you live in Escondito for a year you can have a million dollars" I'm not really willing to spend more than a few days on vacation in California. And even at that, there are other places higher on my vacation list.

But really, American's don't have the monopoly on dumb and egotistical. Not by a long shot. Riding on transit hammers that home on a daily basis now.

*smirk* we're incredibly deft at it, though, on transit and off.

i've yet to ever step foot in california, but sometimes we get them up here. .... ......

No kidding. This person did not seem to well versed on North American geography (or culture, for that matter).
