Nonetheless, weekend go by too damn fast. My reason for singing this common refrain, however, is not the usual one: my problem is not having enough time to get my work done. My "day job" exists to top up my income and provide a stable environment in which to do my work and for Elaine to do her work.

The problem is, right now the "day job" is taking up far too much of my time and it is becoming frustration. Unlike almost everyone I don't see my time away from the day job as time to kick back and relax. It's time to get things done. In fact the time I have to spend resting in order to function at my job is a source of frustration.

i was discussing this very issue with a friend of mine from seattle over the weekend. for me, it's going to be a matter of making my peace with the need for rest, which is increasing as i get older yet refuse to slow down, and through this i'm being forced to learn how to focus my efforts so that the time i do spend working -- at the bread-and-butter job, or in pursuit of my personal interests -- is more fruitful. i'm not suggesting that an abundance of nervous energy is an issue for you as well, but it does sound like you need the rest, and until medical science can eliminate our need for sleep entirely i think making peace with the limitations of our frail mortal coils is the best we can do.

OH! how I can relate!!! Only my "day job" is a night job, and I do plenty other things in what is supposed to be my spare time, So I NEVER have time to relax. Days off consist of chores, 1-3 hair clients, Djing, graphic promo design, and more. Which usually just spills into days on too... but I work a lot of extra hours, and by the time I am off work, nothing is open, so I can't really accomplish a lot of the regular life "chores" that others do after work. DJing is like pulling teeth, cuz I have to book time off werk to do it, but still only have 1 or 2 days off.
Every second week, I *have to* stay up for 40+ hours straight just so I have enough time to do everything! goes as follows: Friday (or whatever day MY friday happens to fall on) I stay up all night, and do weekly chores, design shit, work on hair and other projects, go for brekkie 'round 7 to make sure I stay awake, drink about 5 litres of coffee, go out and do my shopping, visit someone I haven't seen in ages, go work on clients' hair, go party, go home, pass out 'round 3 am or so. next day lay 'round till about 3 pm surfing the net (still, a necessary part of my gypsy-like creative-living experiment) get up, ship out any hair orders I have, pick up supplies, go for coffee with a friend if I have time before I go do more clients' hair, wish speed or crack was good for you, go DJ somewhere, maybe pick up a boy or two (kidding! well, sort of) PASS OUT. Get up, go to work for 8-11 hours, repeat, repeat......
