After taking the fashionable quiz du jour at MentalHealth.com my diagnosis came out as follows:

DISORDERS DIAGNOSED:
* Uncomplicated Bereavement
DISORDERS RULED OUT:
everything else

So there it is. Some shitty things happened all in short order some time ago and it was more than I could deal with all at once. Last summer was a moment of epiphany regarding the last and one of the more complicated aspects of that collection of grief. Since then I've been a much better state of mind. In a word, "myself" again.

I suppose now my Goth Card™ will be revoked because I'm not fucked up enough for the scene as it stands today. Not that I mind, I wish there were another term. It's that guilt by association thing again: for a subculture that was originally named for its relationship to Romantic literature its utterly ironic that there seems to be nothing but near-illiterate, loud, obnoxious, mentally unstable idiots. Not that there isn't still the odd intelligent, intellectual, and Romantic individual out there, but they certainly don't make up the majority of the scene anymore and are all but drowned out by the idiots. sigh. I don't mean for this to be a whinge, just a statement of fact.

And, yes, here is today's comic. At one point I thought of actually doing this as a business before cheap espresso machines hit the market.

A friend of mine is applying for a job with the NFB and told me she has to go write an exam today as part of the application. It got me to thinking... what sort of questions would be on an NFB exam...?

Are you Canadian enough to work for the NFB?

  1. Have you ever:

    1. kissed an Eskimo?
    2. kissed a Mountie?
    3. made love in a canoe?
    4. All of the above.

  2. Can you sing all the words to:

    1. O, Canada (bonus if you can do it in both languages)?
    2. The Cat Came Back?
    3. The Blackflies (of North Ontario)?
    4. All of the above.

  3. Can you recite from memory no less than three:

    1. Kids in the Hall sketches?
    2. SCTV sketches?
    3. Monty Python sketches?
    4. All of the above.

The irony!

I spelled "etymology" wrong in my interest list.

Comment on this. Don't ask why, just do it. Any old nonsense will do, just make a comment.
