OK, the sore ass thing (which is worse today, BTW). Sunday night I was officially "lamenting being one year closer to death" (i.e. celebrating my birthday) and the question everyone kept asking me was "are you drunk yet?" and then they would buy me another drink. I lost count, but what I recall drinking included a roughly quadruple gin & tonic a home just before leaving, a Guiness from Mike, a single g&t, and at least seven more double g&t's - for the mathematically impared that's no less than 20 oz. of booze. But like I said, it could have been more, I lost count. We got to the club around 9:30 and stayed until after 2:00 and I was never without a drink in my hand and slammed a least two of the double gin & tonics like they were shooters. Yeah, I was drunk. Not falling over drunk or anything ("the constitution of Rasputin"), but drunk nonetheless.

So anyway, the sore ass... at the end of the night Sandi, Daevina and others gave me birthday bumps. Basically I got spanked big time. Now it hurts and I have a big blue bruise on my right cheek.

So the buses are running again today. I took a bus to work for the very first time today, since the strike started before I started this job. It was a bit of a treat because it was decidedly faster (by about 10 minutes) and I rode on an articulated bus for the first time ever. There are downsides to the buses running again, however. Once again I have to contend with people at the bus stop watching me drink juice from the jug with bed-head and wearing the zillion year old, ripped Sisters of Mercy T-shirt I sleep in. Remember that Twilight Zone episode where Roddy McDowell ends up as the human in a Martian zoo? Yeah. That's me. The other downer is I can't leave my big window open when I'm not home because all the lowlife peices of dreck will go back to robbing the West Side again instead of West Vancouver. And I am really not looking forward to Wednesday night - fireworks and free buses, ugh .

I've done next to nothing today except e-mail Brenda and taunt Elisabeth on LJ. I did some research about ways to impose mailbox size quotas on our old mail system and some half-assed investigation of a problem with a reporting agent in one of the intranet applications, so yeah, I got some stuff done, but it doesn't feel like much. And now I just want to leave.

I can't believe what a schmoe I was when I was at TCG. I worked like a dog at the very same work for a third the money. As an indpendent I worked like a dog when I had work, but had big gaps where I didn't have to do a blessed thing. Now this place. I have to show up every day, but slow and steady wins the race here. All I have to do is get one foot forward each day and it's all good, then when I walk out the door I don't have to worry about it at all. It's not a bad way to live after all.

Bad Idea
