My old surf-beast!

I was just putting a bunch of old photos up in the photo album section of my personal website and came across this. OK, it is a desperately crappy picture, but this is my old Volkswagen "truck". It was a type 3 squareback that had been cut entirely in half. About 16 inches were removed from the middle of the car, making it a very short 2-seater. It had skidplates and re-enforced bumpers so you could pretty much knock over trees with it and then drive over them - great for bashing along old logging roads to get to obscure parts of Vancouver Island. The board on top is my old 10' longboard. The damn thing weighed 70 lbs. I got it across the back of my head a few times in big winter surf. And speaking of winter, yes, it is covered in snow, and yes, I went out that day anyway. Never fuck with a Canadian surfer (not so much because we are tough, but more because we are clearly insane and have no sense of self-preservation).

I just got back from seeing "The Others". Damn but it is good. It is, in the literary sense of the word, a very gothic story. It is moody, dark, and genuinely creepy. There are points that are poignant. The story never falters, the cinematography is excellent and the ending is genuinely unexpected. To think, the only reason I went was to get out of the sun and sit somewhere air-conditioned for a couple hours. I got waaay more than I bargained for!

New Shirt
New Shirt
OK, I need to save money to go to NYC, but I figure that I don't want to look like a rube from the ass-end of the dregs of the British Empire so I bought myself a shirt to wear while I am shopping for fun stuff in New York. Also good for crypt tours and graveyard picnics.

This is also further proof that rationalization is better than sex (when was the last time you went a month, or even a week, without a really good rationalization?).
