I got the job at the City of Port Moody, they will be faxing me an offer today. I'll be CUPE (for my American friends, that would be the Canadian Union of Public Employees) whcih has it's pluses and minuses. I haven't been in a major union since I worked for the pulp mill (I'm not counting the useless union I was part of when working at the cinema). I guess once I'm in I'll have to start calling [livejournal.com profile] seymour_glass "brother" ;-)

The long and short of it is, the rent continues to get paid, [livejournal.com profile] valerian gets to keep on with her business, we don't have to move (so Gothic BC survives), and we can continue to work toward opening a store-front without incurring debt.

Remember Friday before last when, because they were going to set me up with a VOIP phone to work from home, I was briefly thinking maybe continuing on with Tolko as a contractor maybe wouldn't be so bad? I neglected to mention that I asked about the status of the phone yesterday because it seemed strange that it was taking so long. Turns out the phone is ready to go, but they won't send it to me because, basically it is now stuck in the bureaucracy. Somebody piped up with the question "how come he gets a phone when none of the other contractors have one?" -- maybe because I am the only one that knows 1.) it is possible, and 2.) there are about 40 surplus phones because they are shutting down the Vancouver office? It was the last straw.
