America has actually gotten this stupid: people let things rot in their thermoses and then shot their eyes out when removing the caps after the gas built up. Coming soon: thermoses that intentionally don't seal properly and necessarily leak because of two astoundingly stupid people in the United States... brought to you by the country too stupid for Kinder eggs.

The part that got me is the failure of basic safety procedure regarding physics. I was taught this as a toddler: always open things pointing away from you. This prevents things from popping off and hitting you, steam from burning you, etc. Similarly, instructions for opening champagne say to point the bottle away from you, not toward another person, and work the cork off carefully so you maintain control of it and also do not lose any of the expensive beverage.

Things rotting in containers is no surprise. People forget to clean the fridge, or a bottle rolls under the seat in a car; it happens. These are best opened outdoors in case noxious things spill out upon opening.
