I decided to follow your example (hope you don't mind me copying you ... I just got the inspiration to take that leap when you did it, plus other reasons) as I've been actually contemplating doing this for many months with my other journals. Too many freaks out there. Though I did meet some really cool people when they were public as well as professional requests to use some of my artwork and photography, so eventually I will have some public outlet of a travel guide - this summer perhaps.
Luckily my livejournal was easy. That download client, if you click on "Live Journal", "view history", you can just click on the date you posted, double click the entry, click post options, click friends, click ok, click ok.
For my other journals, I tossed them in password protection, and giving passwords to viewers who I know aren't creeps.
Yeah. I used the history feature of the client for LJ. Unfortunately DJ was not quite so easy. Either way, it's a hell of a lot of clicking when you have a couple years worth of posts on two journals.
