No!

I just got back from seeing "Blue Crush" with [livejournal.com profile] opium and [livejournal.com profile] uberbabe and I sooooooo want to go out in the water now. *sigh*

We ran into [livejournal.com profile] snap_dragon on Granville after the movie and I ran into Heath on the Seabus. Some drunk old guy was singing "Viva Las Vegas" on the Seabus.... ah... Transit.

Before meeting up for the movie I went up to the computer store district on West Broadway to spend some of the Gothic BC donation money (and hooray for [livejournal.com profile] kitsune_13 who donated today!). I decided to deviate from my usual supplier because some other guys down the street had a special on 80Gb hard drives and I thought I'd stretch my budget. This place is one of those stores that is of the "just pay and get the fuck out" school of customer service and I generally avoid them. I should have today. I went in and asked for the advertised special and the woman behind the counter simply said, "we're out of those" and walked away. No, "We'll be getting more in in a week, can I put one aside for you?" or "Perhaps I could interest you in this similar model for only $10 more?" - I stood stunned for a second. I considered asking when they would be getting more in or if they had something similar for half a second, then realised that the guys I usually deal with were only four blocks away and simply left. Turned out to be a good move. My usual suppliers had a similar model 80Gb drive on sale for $25 less, but they too were out, so for $10 more (still $15 less than the other guys) they offered me another 80Gb drive by a distinctly more reputable manufacturer. So, in the end, tax in, I saved $17 over the no-name special at the other guys and got a drive from a teir-1 manufacturer. Now it is just a matter to find the time to install it. I be much releived to replace the ageing drive in what was originally my test server and emergency backup ended up a "mission critical" peice of hardware . The drive it has been running on for the past two years is woefully undersized and came out of my "junk" pile when I cobbled the machine together as a test box. I will rest *much* easier with this in place.

And a funny thing happened walking along Broadway. I was actually cat-called by some shirtless frat-boy types for looking odd. That made my day. I've been feeling rather washed-out and ungothy lately.

ah.... the lost art of customer service.

I hate being treated that way. Maybe it's because I do take customer service seriously as every job I've ever had involved it to some degree and I always do my best to make the customer happy. I mean, as cheezy as it sounds and as dorky as you might feel providing it sometimes, it really does generate repeat business. Look what happened when you got bad service. You left! Good move I say!!

You know, it's funny but when I was younger this didn't bother me so much. I'm getting too old! *booohooooo*

I was in retail customer service - I think the number 1 enemy to customer service
CUSTOMERS. The general public is mostly a bunch of greedy stupid and selfish people.

I will say that (except for THIS compter store - wich is legendary in its bad service)
if you ever walk into a store and you get bad service - its probably because that Asshole
who was served before you was ignorant and abusive.

You got customers chewing them out from the bottom - and the companies they work for ripping them off from abouve. So I put up with bad service from retail-slaves - the are the victims.

I dealt with that for over 10 years. Shitty customers making me feel like I owed them something: like slaving for their cappucinos. But I didn't take it out on customers who didn't deserve it.
