Black Douglas

Back "home" there is a pub at Cowichan Bay that used to be called the Black Douglas. Most locals (at least those over 35 or so) still call it the Black Doug despite the fact that it was renamed something more touristy some years ago. Cowichan Bay is a fishing village, and what you see here is the straight where these men would fish. "Douglas" is Gaelic for "dark water" and from this photo you can see how fitting the pub's name was. Just another example of marketing weasels playing to the stupid and sucking the poetry out of our culture.

More than the water, I love the sky! I've never seen so much green before! Never made it as far as Vancouver, BUT I have been to Victoria and the islands in between (used to have family in Anacortes, you see). 'Twas a while ago.

Another piece of nonsense trivia: down here in CA, in Santa Cruz, there is a house named "Darkwater" and it's landlord is named...*drum roll*...Douglas. I never realized they were related to each other. You have enlightened me today.

The far-away mountains right on the horizon are Washington state, not quite Anacortes. Probably Orcas Is. if I remember which way I was facing correctly.
