ummmm, nope. After they pulled that B.S. trying to scare us off from 'competing' with them by having a lawyer threaten to sue us for use of their 'legally documented ownership' of the term 'fetish', I kinda lost the notion that their events might be fun....
I'm with Isaac. That was the last straw for me. Mind you, I hadn't been in quite a while before that, as a certain EX of mine DJ'ed there and it was just better to avoid the place entirely. ;P
I dunno man, BP just never really did it for me. The music was OK, not great, but friggin way better than most mainstream clubs out there to be sure. I do LOVE the Lotus as a scuzzy venue, but paying $14 at the door or $9 w/ a pass, getting in there, and not being presented with anything from the promoters beyond just opening the doors and letting me in was always a little dissappinting. It was like they were gouging you for the privilege of attending the only fetish night in town and then not giving you anything back.
It was all right, I'm not openly dissing it or anything, but I just thought what they actually presented versus the effort they were putting into it and offering to the patrons was totally out of whack.
Anyway, I haven't been in probably 2 years either. I think a fair amount of people from the non-spooky scene still go, though.
I went to the very first Betty Paige night (which was in an abandoned cinema on Hastings) briefly and never went again. I was going through their photogallery, spotting familiar faces in the older galleries and was curious.
I'm looking forward to Sin City next month. I've got gobs of memory in my camera now and I'll be living downtown again so I can get royally hammered and not worry about how I'm getting home. Wooo!
