"Tharsis" is a play on words - he's my cat, Tharsis: "catharsis". He gets to hear all my problems ;-)

Tharsis also happens to be the western-most end of the Earth in the Bible. British Columbia being the western-most fringe of Canada (and what's left of the British Empire in general), it's kind of fitting that way as well.
