This one would do. It's at E. 82nd and Fifth Ave., right across from the main entrance to the Metropolitan Museum.

oh no you don't!

Oops. Forgot. I'll have to settle for the penthouse in the Chrysler Building, then. But you have to host all the *big* parties since you'll have more space ;-p

Ah, but the question at hand presumes unlimited funds. With enough money to spend everything is for sale ;-)

Which restaurant owners, BTW?

i have a question for you:

In Manhattan, I presume.

Elaine and I were talking about this. I could (based on what my current job is worth in NYC) afford to live in the Upper East or West side, but I don't think I would. Elaine's Uncle's place right off Washington Square was great. It was very central to just about anywhere you'd want to go and there were lots of services and amenities around. Just yesterday we were wishing we had a deli on the main floor in our building like his does (because we couldn't be arsed to walk a block for food). All the funky goodness of the East Village is just a few blocks one way, the gentrified pseudo-funkiness of Greenwich is a few blocks the other way. The gallery district of SoHo is equally close by. Getting downtown or mid-town is a snap because you are sitting pretty much dead centre between the east-side subway lines and the west-side subway lines.

If I was on a bit more of budget I would go for something in the East Village, but not too far east or down (no Alphabet City or Chinatown, thanks). Way uptown, past the Park, has no appeal to me whatsoever. And, of course, the outer boroughs are out of the question ;-)

So I guess, in short, somewhere between 2nd Ave. and 6th Ave. (or should I say, "Avenue of the Americas" ...pfft!), between 2nd St. and 20th St.-ish (preferring the more west and down part of the range). Funky enough, but not get-mugged-on-the-way-home funky, and centrally located between downtown and mid-town.
