First real memory of something:
Being somewhat less than one year old looking waaaaay up at the top of the curving plantation-style staircase in the house we moved out of when I was one. My second really clear memory is watching the moon landing on live T.V., June 20th, 1969. I was 22½ months old.

First car:
1979 Ford Pinto. Yeah. The exploding kind. I got seriously ripped off and it hardly lasted a month. My first decent car was a 1965 Volkswagen Type III notchback. Another long story, but I ended up trading that car for a month in what had been Elaine's dad's room when he was growing up.

First real kiss:
Dana, second grade, behind the baseball diamond.

First break-up:
Rosella - it was a mess...

First job:
Working in my dad's upholstery shop in 1979.

First screen name:
Emperor Commodus, 1984. Unless bulletin-boards don't count. My first Internet nic was Renato the Gondolier (another long story).

First self purchased album:
Siouxsie and the Banshees, Scream, 1978.

First funeral:
My grandmother, 1982.

First pets:
Two gerbils named Alice and Cooper than I shared with my sister.

First credit card:
Eaton's - how Canadian is that?

First true love:
True? - Elaine. First time I thought I was in love: in college, her name was Christine.

First enemy:
Bert - it started in the second grade. Once in the fourth grade he pissed me off so badly I threw my desk at him. One time in the seventh grade after a movie he got me by the hair and kneed me in the face for about 15 minutes. I looked like I should have been shouting "Aaaadiraaaan!" after that one.

First big trip:
Drumheller, 1971. I remember hoodoos... lots of hoodoos... and it was too freaking hot. On the way back we camped at Lake Louise. I snuck the cookie tin into my tent. In the middle of the night a grizzly bear decided he wanted the cookies. I slept through it. Mom saw the bear. I still have the tin with bear-claw marks on it.

First play/musical/performance:
The first memorable one was a black-light puppet show put on by a travelling troupe when I was in first grade.

First musician you remember hearing in your house:
Beethoven.

First broken bone:
The index finger of my right hand, grade four or five, playing goal in soccer and not quite getting the ball... I've broken the same finger twice more the same way.

First fist fight:
Jarnail, first grade. He started it.

First concert:
Dizzy Gillespie.

love the screen names...and the gerbil names...as for the broken finger i've been the guy who broke someone's finger the exact same way as i kicked the ball at the moment he tried to grab it...he had goalie gloves on and when he took them off his finger was pointing at just about a right angle...ugly...

Of course "Emperor Commodus" was in the C-64 days.

All three times I broke that finger, and once with the same finger on my left hand, were identical: reaching for a ball I couldn't quite reach and having it hit the tip of my middle finger and bend it back. Then there was the time I dislocated mt wrist playing "Earth Ball" - a good lesson in inertia that one was... one 185 lb. teen-ager cannot stop a 300 lb., 10'-diameter ball alone. Damn but that was a fun game though.

yeh those soccer balls have some pretty good momentum behind them...bending a finger back is painful at the best of times...
