Usually in the Archie comics, or any other comic, next to the giant psychadelic Mural (only $1.00!!), and sandwiched bwtn Charles ATlas, and the ads for GRIT!
I think it is hilarious. And it reminds me of Crazy Go Nuts University (http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail26.html) ("Actual applicants not accepted. Art test is so we can make fun of you.").
Normally I wouldn't admit to this, but once upon a time, desperate for work, I sent away for the "free video on how you can start your own business as an artist! Return it if you're not completely satisfied, but we know you will be!"
It was a video art test. It showed you what to do (you had to copy an image of a face in profile, and a building in extreme perspective), and then required you to send your results to their office in somewhereorother USA. Needless to say I laughed and promptly 'returned to sender'. I haven't heard anything from them since.
i'm trying to remember the name of the book i read where the guy moves to montreal from the states and teaches at an art school just like the one above...people send in their art work and they critique it and send it back...he lives with a japanese family and it's set in the 40s or something like that...damn it was a really good book too...
I remember those!
