Elaine and I carved pumpkins tonight. She went classic and I attempted Lex from Gloomcookie.

I'm not totally happy with it, but it is more what I had in mind than the crap pumpkin I made when Elisabeth, Michele and I carved pumpkins at Washington Square two years ago.

It's awful, I know. It's also a couple days rotten in the picture.

Lex's face, thined down pumpkin? Curious as to how you did it and how far you dug into it to make the light go through the pumpkin.

Too chicken to experiment on it myself. ~_~*

experiment for yourself... pumpkins are CHEAP.

Note if you have no skill at thinging walls - here is what you do

1: get a phonograph of what you want to try
2: Photoshop it - reduce it to the size of your pumpkin face
3: Crank the contrast all the way up until you are left with
solid black/white shapes
4: Reverse the image to get the white shapes to cut out
5: Print the pic
6: tape it onto the pumpkin
7: Use a safety pin/push tack and poke holes around the perimeter of each shape
8: when you remove the paper the image should be there
9: cut along the dotted lines

Phonograph?

How far you dig down really depends on the pumpkin - some are thicker than others. It's really not that hard at all, you just scrape some surface away, then have a look at how much light comes through with a candle. If it's too dark, scrape some more away from the inside (it's easier to scrape away the inside after you've done the carving because you don't have to scrape around your carving).

yay hallowe'en!

I still want to come up with something for the pumpkin carving contest at the club tonight. I have another pumpkin waiting, but no good ideas. I can see from [livejournal.com profile] mediavictim's response to [livejournal.com profile] valerian's post (http://www.livejournal.com/users/valerian/135248.html#t282960) that I'm going to have to come up with something pretty damn amazing if I hope to win.
