That was kind of an accident. We wanted to frame the windows in lights, but couldn't find any with white strings like the one set I bought last year. We were at Zellers and I noticed boxes with lights sticking out of white mounts. We looked in the box, sure enough, white strings, so we bought a few boxes. We didn't realize until we got home that we had purchased icicle lights and not "normal" lights. We couldn't be arsed to take them back so we just played the hand we were dealt.

been in the same boat meself. i was so thrilled to see white lights on white strands i snatched two boxes up immediately and have made plans to raid the place during the post-holiday sales. being the anal retenetive that i am, i want to replace all my window and door lights- *all* of them. (for those not in the know i leave the lights up year 'round for ambient lighting. i have lots of large windows. lots.) i should send you a pic- i framed the glass of both fench doors with white lights so they show through whether the doors are opened or closed- with the gauze curtains it's a lovely effect and adds some extra light to a dim doorway.

What code do you use to engage the side scrolly effect thingy?

In this particular case:

<marquee direction="left" behavior="alternate" scrollamount="2" width="600" height="500" LOOP="-1"><img src="http://www.mbarrick.net/livejournal/2003/11/xmasroom.jpg" height="500" alt="" galleryimg="no"></marquee>

It's the marquee tag that does the work. It's IE only, so anybody out there with Netcape/Mozilla or Opera will just see the image, which is why I always put it behind an lj-cut — I know there is at least one person who has me on their firends list that doesn't use IE so they don't need a 1500 pixel wide image stretching their friends page out of shape.

More on the marquee tag here (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/author/dhtml/reference/objects/marquee.asp?frame=true).

I guess the lights are out when I head to work, although its funny that when you initially posted about your tree and color scheme was the day we just got back from Zellers and the Mall with a new cristmas tree and a mountain of blue and white lights and decorations... haha

Great Minds Think Alike I guess!

Heh, don't forget our cheesy purple bat lights over the dining room doorway.
They add a dose of goofy Gothyness one simply cannot live without.

After the fact (when we were looking for an image for our Christmas get together) I ended up reading about some historical trends in Christmas trees. Turns out monochromatic silver and white or silver and blue trees were all the rage when our building was new. Victorians tended to go over the top with colour and in the Edwardian era before WWI "tasteful" themed trees came into fashion.

Love the pics. We've just started putting our decorations up and the one comment so far... we miss the pumpkin head lights :)

I'm going scrounging tomorrow to see what else I can find in the specials bins...
