As of today I've been at my job for exactly two years. Wow. Unlike every other job so far I've yet to be bored with this job or to have grown to dislike it. Myr and I, a long time ago talked about an "18 month" rule with tech jobs, where techies get bored and start looking for greener pastures. Well, here I am half a year past that point and none of that has begun to set in. Sure there are annoyances and the occasional morning where I'd rather stay in bed, but I am not constantly annoyed and waking up with a cloud of doom over me because another odious day lurked ahead.

My rule of thumb for when it is time to change is when fleeting thoughts like, "If I got hit by a car and broke a leg, I could get out of work for at least three days," run through my mind on the way to work on a regular basis. After two years here I'm not even close to that.

funny i was at safeway stocking shelves for 10 years...and i've been at fisheries doing this job for 5, but have been doing the same job for 10 years now...mind you there is nothing boring about pay and benefits in the government...it constantly changes...too many rules...

In my life, counting this one, I've had 54 "jobs" across a staggering gamut - pedal-cab operator, unloading fish-boats, soldier, teacher, usher, illustrator, mechanic, computer geek, telephoning Eskimoes about their telephones, you name it... To not be bored after two years feels like an accomplishment.

That's not to say I can't hold a job, just that something better always came along or something happened to put an end to what I was doing. I've been "downsized" once and fired once, in every other case the job either had a limited run or something else came along. My "career" has been a strange one, but with surpisingly few wrong turns.

there must be a good story behind phoning inuit about their phones...to be honest excepting a couple of odd jobs as a teenager, working for a neighbour, babysitting, and working at "whoop up" days in lethbridge parking cars, i've had 5 jobs...a gas station for 4 years, the coke plant for 5, birks for 1, safeway for 10 and concurrently the federal government for 12...though at the government i've had 5 different jobs, but essentially the same line of work...i think part of it is i can tune out at work...i only put in what i have to...at the coke plant i worked on a production line and it was boring, but i'd just think about other things...it's that rich inner world of mine...ha ha...i don't doubt you can keep a job...it reminds me of the episode of the simpsons when homer lists off all of his jobs...ha ha...
