Convergence is an annual meeting of net.goths held in a different city each year. It was originally conceived in alt.gothic as a way for people who only knew eachother online to get together IRL for some fun. The first event was held in Chicago. Since then it has grown into a major event with thousands of attendees and with different cities submitting bids that are voted on by previous attendees.
In short, it is an excuse to go get drunk and run around with a bunch of goths in a different city and it is a hell of a lot of fun.

(Mind you I did drop a butload of cash to hang out with freaks in the desert)
