One of the unofficial things that I've read is more than one person on the Opportunity team thinks that the floor of the crater is covered in salty, wet mud and that the tracks show mud being slopped on either side and shiny spots where water has been squeezed out and then frozen in contact with the air. Things don't go to press unless there are at least three corrobrating indicators. There isn't anything to back up this mud hypothesis other than the tracks, but I've been watching the raw images and there are points where it really does look like mud. If there is *that* much water and it is salty enough to stay liquid at least some of the time... wow.
