could you do another layer for a non-uniform fade effect
to add to the illusion of older photo (on the other hand
PVC clothing didn't exist back then either)

Thanks. I couldn't resist taking five minutes to play with this one a little while I was posting the pics yesterday.

you're going to have to show me how you do this. I might be doing the vintage look for maleficent's site. I xan do it fine to a certain degree though..

How do you get the creases in the pic? Airbrush tool?

First I colourise the picture, then set the background to white and increace the canvas size to get some "elbow room" around the edge. I cloned out an Organix poster that was behind them because while Rebekah's PVC could pass for leather and satin, a neopsychadelic-fractal techo-poster wasn't working at all. Then I rounded the corners and made the edges look worn with one of the irregular brushes. The creaces are drawn on with the painbrush tool with a couple of the stock angled brush shapes and the pressure turned down to about 40%. The I select the white around the edge with the magic wand set to about a 10% tolerance, invert the selection and cut out the picture. I repaint the the background to pure white with the paintbucket set to 100% tolerance, paste the image back as a new layer and add a shallow drop shadow to make it look like something on paper that has been scanned.

I've done other more involved ones where I have bothered to add photographer's marks, grain, irregular fading, stains and the like, but that all takes longer.
