It's a character from the ca. 1973 "music video-movie" entitled Whatever Happened to Vileness Fats?" by The Residents - arguably music's most bizarre creation:

http://www.rzweb.net/video/vileness.html

PLOT LINE EXCERPT: "Vileness Flats is being threatened by the Atomic Shopping Carts, armoured carts with huge drills on the front (the props were "borrowed" from a local Safeway). A Bridge keeps the Shopping Carts away, but the villagers also hire the Berry Boy twins, a pair of Siamese twin tag-team wrestlers named Arf & Omega, to protect them. The twins fight off the Carts, saving Vileness Flats, and are honoured with a banquet. The mayor thanks the pair and Steve, Vileness Flats' religious leader, gives a long, boring speech. The twins heckle him, throwing their dinner (giant broccoli) at him and he stomps off, depressed"

... yes, the word "strange" does not do this justice. For the record, I have never seen the film although at one time I did own the soundtrack.

Last summer I saw a huge sign out front of a carpet store near Granville Island... it read (and I'm not making this up):

"Shag $5"

That's it. In big red letters.

Figures I didn't have my camera that day.

I remember a sign on an OK Tire, or some other tire place, that said:

"Ice your ride with some phat dubbs"

I think it might still be there....

thank you

Somewhere I have a picture from my road trip to BM ... a shop in Oregon that sells hunting rifles and fishing poles was
offering "cheap hookers"

Now THAT is where I don't mind stopping .. stop for road snacks , a potty break... and a quickie in the back.. and then get back out on the road.
