I skipped out of work for two hours to go vote, and I voted for the Work Less Party (a.k.a. The Work Ethics Party). Their platform is essentially based on the writing of Bruce O'Hara ("Working Harder Isn't Working", "Enough Already") who is also their candidate for Comox.

While the Green Party has a similar policy, but the Work Less Party has a more arts-and-culture oriented platform, which resonates with me as an artist. I did not want to vote for either of the the front-runners, and if I am going to "throw away" my vote, it will be to the party that suits me best.

I had the same point to make with the federal election: ultimately a person should vote locally. Vote for the candidate/party in your riding that best suits your vision and the needs of your riding. Don't play an odds game of simply voting for who you think will win. That accomplishes absolutely nothing. The very point of voting is to voice your opinion. If you have a "fringe" opinion and vote for a maintream party, you've lost your voice and subverted the process (and that being said I think it follows that I voted in favour of the STV).

I JUST came back from voting....

The TV debate really sealed the fate on the top three for me - Gordo was a souless smileing yes-man. The NDP candidate was too busy mud flinging the liberals to make her own point and the Green party canditate had too much of a "bored housewife" vibe to her where she was representing a party and a culture that she didn't subscribe to.

So I had to choose between "Marijuana" and "Work Less Party"

Ironically the tech geek within me looked around for a spec sheet on the candidates and what their party stood for. I wanted a table that summarized each of the candidates platforms so I could make an informed decsision on who to vote for.

Sadly - this was not to be. Election laws prohibit advertising on election day so I was not legally allowed to obtain information to make an informed vote (I had no idea who these other parties were or if they could possibly represent me better than my first choice)

The name of the "work less" party honestly put me in mind of all those social activists who end up complaining about the working conditions for jobs they don't have and businesses they dno't start.. Had I known about the arts focus of the work less party I may have voted for them

but alas ...all that was presented to me was NAME and PARTY... no other info.

Too late, of course, but...

I voted NDP this time around, but out of the fringe parties Work Less definitely makes the most sense to me. I'm really disappointed with the campaign and candidates the Greens ran this year.
