I should find it when I get home, but there is a passage in Plato's Republic about how people under 30 shouldn't be allowed to have philisophical arguments because they latch onto sarcasm and argument for argument's sake like puppies playing with a rope.

Are you telling your admiring public that sarcasm can't be funny? Sure, it's humor for people that can't actually be very funny. But Steve Martin's made a career of it.

Not so much that it can't be funny, just that one should not rely on it exclusively - particularly on a text-based medium where it doesn't come across very well.

maybe you don't find sarcasm funny because you don't get it...ha ha...i couldn't resist...but i know what you mean, i just hate those who use sarcasm exclusively...ha ha...
