You'd think that with the new camera, my old one wouldn't be that useful anymore. Not so! I made a slight modification to it today and now it sees infra-red light:

A world with orange grass and red-leaved cherry trees...

...where patio umbrellas glow in the dark and the trees are purple at night.

For comparison's sake, this is the same exposure as above, in visible light only.

Unfortunately I made a slight error during the disassembly and ripped the conductor ribbon attached to the arrow-pad buttons. For the time being I can't change the mode of the camera, turn on the flash, or browse the pictures I have taken. I've already e-mailed Olympus about a replacement part. Hopefully, since a large number of the cameras in the Olympus C-series used exactly the same form-factor the part shouldn't be too hard to get and not too expensive.

I'm pretty pleased by it. I should be able to get some very interesting club pictures with this. Hopefully I'll have the replacement part in time for the long weekend.

It'll be great fun once I get the replacement part and all the buttons are working again. Right now I'm stuck with the last settings I was using.

And then gawk at the naked people images...
IR CCD's are often sensitive enough with heat to penetrate light clothing on young ladies, and due to heat distribution on the human body...

Caused a bit of a ruckus about a year ago... Some CCD's now are released with "blind spots" in certain heat ranges... *smile*

As I understand it, that only works if you have a strong IR source such as the Sun, bright incandescent light, or an IR-specific light as used on night-vision gear (including those cameras that caused said ruckus.)

Hi Michael, stumbled on your LJ during a search for Vancouver goth clubs ... I think :)

Anyway, these photos are so cool! I just started to learn how to use my SLR and love all the photos on the site.
